Koca's Music
Kocassalé Dioubaté is a Guinean of the Malinké (Mandingo) tribe of West Africa. A descendant of the tribe's "Griots" - traditional storytellers and musicians; the keepers of the tribe’s oral history – Koca has been dancing, playing and making music since he was old enough to walk.
Using only handmade, authentic West African musical instruments like the Djembe, Balafon (xylophone), Bolon (african bass), Gongoma (gourd thumb-piano) and Flute among others, Kocassalé captures the essence of Malinké culture through its music.
Duniya Ragiri
Koca's debut CD release (released June 2006) features 10 of his original compositions set to traditional rhythms. His lyrics speak of modern issues in West African life infused with the stories and lessons of his forefathers, and instrumental numbers are "so deep and organic that they grow to be a part of you" ( Stuart Dreyden, Vancouver Province). Be transported straight to Africa.
Héritage
On his newest release, Koca explores the contemporary world of “Griot” music in Guinea with other members of the celebrated Dioubate family – including Master Instrumentalists Lansana Dioubate (Djembe & Vocals), Sekou Amadou (Balafon), Issa (Bolon & Vocals) and others. H é ritage is a spell-binding journey from start to finish.
